The Setup

With a new grant made in Louisville, Kentucky allowing production companies tax incentives to film in the state, Louisville was picked to be the home of The Clovehitch Killer, a horror movie that would follow a teenage boy as he begins suspecting that his father is an infamous and sadistic murderer.

The Solution

To capture the southern vibe of the movie, I had to unlearn a lot of design principles to create props that looked ‘amateur’ or ‘cheap’. Many of the props had to look like they were created on a dime, such as coupons for a cheap supermarket, cheesy ‘true crime’ style books and off-brand magazines. Ultimately, the largest prop designs stemmed from cases of crime scene evidence, and fake snuff magazines that would focus on disturbing content.

The Services

Lead graphic prop designer for the entire movie.

 warning

This movie’s focus was on a serial killer with a penchant for binding up his victims. Some of the work shown could be construed as mildly distressing, however all photography used is from sources of consensual actors who volunteered and were paid accordingly.
